Soft shield fern 'Congestum'

A small variety of the native shield fern, with densely packed, evergreen, slightly spiralling fronds. The dense, upright fronds are packed with overlapping leaf segments. Suitable for a shady garden with moist but well-drained soil. Can cope with drier conditions. Mulch well in winter with leaf-mould or well-rotted manure. Cut back old foliage in spring when new leaves appear. Plant with woodland perennials and bulbs in informal clumps.
