Giant scabious

Adored by bees, this is a very tall perennial for the back of a border.  It can grow up to or over 2 metres in height. The pale yellow flowers bloom between May & August. It prefers a relatively sunny spot in most garden soils: well-drained with some moisture. Combine with other tall perennials or grasses: it may need staking in exposed areas. Cut back to near ground level for the winter, though the seed heads can be attractive so best to wait until January or February to do this. Self seeds readily, so look out for & conserve seedlings. Young plants sold in small 9cms pots.
